Traditional capacitors and batteries each fill their own niche for energy storage purposes, but they each have their own drawbacks. Capacitors are capable of supplying a lot of power quickly, but have low energy density, while batteries offer long duration energy with lower power. Through developing a pseudocapacitor from readily available, cheap chemical feedstocks, researchers at TNO have been working to bridge this gap. Their solution spans the breadth of material development all the way to prototype construction, to show that this technology is viable in a real life setting.
