MPO connectors are increasingly used in data centers because they increase the fiber capacity enormously. During the introduction of multi-fiber connectors, there were hardly any good measuring tools available, it was complex and very time-consuming. In the meantime, new more efficient techniques have been developed, and we can very easily check the connectors and ribbon fiber (optical inspection) and measure for attenuation, reflection, type and length. Cleaning will always remain more complex than with single fibers, but better solutions have also been developed for this. This lecture provides an overview of the latest techniques for testing MPO connectors and cables.
