The invention of the printing press had a major impact in Europe. By distributing books and ideas faster and cheaper, more and more people gained access to knowledge. As a result, the control of church and state was reduced and critical thinking was stimulated. Parallels can be drawn with digital sovereignty: our dependence on non-European technology means that we have insufficient control over our data and digital infrastructure, which (potentially) hinders our freedom.
In her keynote, Liesbeth Holterman, Director of Cyberveilig Nederland, addresses what we can learn from history to become more digitally autonomous. She also discusses what organizations can do to regain control. Other topics covered include: what impact does the Cbw have on the issue? How can the CRA contribute to reducing our dependencies? Will AI cause our dependency to increase again?
