The relationship between real estate entrepreneurs and banks is still dominated by human interaction. Nevertheless, data exchange is gaining ground. Valuation data, rental data, and ESG data are examples where building owners are increasingly sharing more information with banks. But what does this lead to? This exchange is not new. For quite some time, this exchange has been taking place in various forms, resulting in a fragmented data landscape. More and more bottlenecks are emerging. The question is: who will take the next step to improve this ecosystem? Technology such as AI will help to better process large amounts of data from the built environment. But does that also answer the question of what we really need? Can we move towards a world with less data collection and more focus on the validation of that 'digital' building? Based on current information exchange, bottlenecks, and opportunities for the future, I share the perspective from my role as Sector Manager CRE & Innovation at Rabobank.
