Workplace design for laboratories

Our laboratory workspaces are designed to provide laboratory workers with optimal support to carry out their (changing) work as comfortably, efficiently, and safely as possible.

Below we explain what our workplace specialists consider when setting up a workplace for a laboratory environment:

Ergonomics

Lab furniture on which good ergonomics Applied to prevent physical strain and injuries to joints and the back, consider:

    • Height-adjustable work tables, ergonomic chairs and stools for a correct working posture, regardless of who uses the workstation.
    • Ergonomically designed workstations with ample storage space above and below the worktop and good cable management for a neat and tidy workspace.
    • Sufficient and good LED lighting for more comfort and improved concentration.
    • Ergonomic anti-fatigue mats and height-adjustable platforms for prolonged standing work on fume cupboards and other installations
    • Ergonomic, height-adjustable trolleys to easily move heavy equipment and prevent overlifting

Safety

Lab furniture must meet specific environmental requirements and prevent contamination and risks to employees and users:

    • Lab furniture and its finish must be chemically and corrosion-resistant, and/or wear-resistant. Antistatic work surfaces may also be required when working with sensitive electronic components.
    • The furniture should be easy to clean to prevent the accumulation of dust particles and other forms of contamination. It should have few to no holes or openings, and preferably a rounded finish. Sometimes it's necessary to meet a specific ISO certification.
    • Furniture must meet validation requirements, meaning it must consistently meet predefined specifications and be suitable for the intended outcome.

Flexibility

Laboratory equipment should be easy to convert and scale up, and components should be easy to replace:

    • Research and production processes are constantly changing, and furniture that can be adapted or scaled up while still meeting the required validation requirements is extremely valuable.
    • Efficient workflows supported by modular furniture also translate directly into faster R&D and reliable production.
    • Parts and accessories can be replaced quickly and easily without having to overhaul the entire installation.
