1U high modular power supply delivers up to 800W, has BF-rated isolation and produces extremely low noise
TDK Corporation (TSE 6762) introduces the TDK-Lambda 1U High MU4 Series AC-DC Modular Power Supplies. The product’s very low noise output is a plus in test and medical applications where noise disturbances must be kept to a minimum. The modular MU4 has up to five isolated and regulated outputs and can deliver up to 800 W of power. All models in the MU4 series feature full MoPP (Means of Patient Protection) isolation, including output to ground, simplifying implementation in BF-classified medical applications. Other possible applications include dental, test and measurement, broadcast, professional audio and industrial equipment.
Intelligent fan control reduces the MU4 fan speed, producing only 36 dBA* of audible noise. The algorithm in the microcontroller monitors the temperature of the primary converter and each output module, and then adjusts the fan speed for optimal cooling.
The low-profile 1U high MU4 measures just 89 x 41 x 257.5 mm (W x H x D), allowing for a smaller system enclosure.
Initially, nine modules are available, offering voltages from 3.3 V to 104 V, with powers between 150 W and 480 W. Options include a 5 V/2 A standby voltage, fan fault signaling, inhibiting and enabling individual or all outputs, DC-good, PMBus™ communication and power distribution for parallel configurations.
Configuring and selecting products from the MU4 series is extremely easy using the online Quick Product Finder, which automatically creates an optimized module selection from a large number of options. After entering the desired output voltages and currents, a 7-digit code is automatically generated, which makes it easy to place the order.
With an efficiency of up to 90%, the MU4 series operates from 85 to 264 VAC input. The power supply delivers 800 W from 180 to 264 VAC input, and 600 W from 90 to 180 VAC input. The maximum leakage current is 300 µA (including all tolerances) and the touch current is <100 µA. The power supply operates in ambient temperatures from -20 °C to +70 °C, with linear derating from 50 °C to 50% of the load.
The MU4 series has an input to output isolation voltage of 4,000 VAC (2x MoPP), input to ground isolation of 1,500 VAC (1x MoPP) and output to ground isolation of 1,500 VAC (1x MoPP). This makes the power supplies suitable for use in B and BF classified medical equipment. Safety certification is according to IEC/EN 60601-1, ES 60601-1 and IEC/EN/CSA/UL 62368-1. The power supplies are designed to comply with IEC/EN 61010-1 and are CE and UKCA marked respectively according to the Low Voltage, EMC and RoHS Directives (EU) and UK regulations in these areas. The power supplies comply with EN 55011-B and EN 55032-B standards for radiated and conducted emissions, and are in accordance with EN 60601-1-2:2015 (Edition 4) and EN 61000-4 immunity standards.
