Various data sources are available for a building, such as sensor data, meter data, metadata about the sensor data, BIM models, logs and documents. To enable smart communication between systems, different systems (and their data) must be integrated in a user-friendly and secure way. In the presentation by Pieter Pauwels, the available methods for data integration and system integration are explained based on experience from the Brains4Buildings project.

Another Brains4Buildings project that will be discussed in the Bits, Bricks & behavior program is the field lab 'The Green Village'. A sustainable future requires innovative ideas and new applicable methods and techniques. The Green Village is a place where people can live, work and learn, free from standard rules and regulations.

Paying attention to technical, business, social and policy challenges helps The Green Village  innovative parties to accelerate the transition from theory to practice. Researchers, students, startups, entrepreneurs and governments are working on the innovative challenges of today and tomorrow within the following three themes: sustainable construction and renovation, future energy system and the climate adaptive city.
