With Smart Actuator, Möglingen sets course for the future.

In Möglingen, great value is placed on public facilities. This also means that the heating systems in shared buildings operate optimally and are energy-efficient. Innovative solutions from SAUTER ensure that they are modernized and technically harmonized.

The municipality Möglingen with approximately 11,300 inhabitants is located in the Ludwigsburg district north of Stuttgart and is a popular meeting place for young and old. This is due to a wide range of facilities, such as daycare centers, schools, senior centers and, in particular, the town hall. This was handed over to the citizens on December 6, 1986, and has been the central meeting point in the municipality ever since. However, the nearly forty years have not passed without leaving their mark on the town hall and the other buildings. With a view to technical harmonisation and meeting current energy standards, it was time to renew the outdated heating technology. Specifically, this involved the replacement of seven heating circuits in the town hall and three heating circuits in a daycare centre. To meet the requirements optimally, the municipality chose solutions from SAUTER and commissioned the installation specialist PENN MSR Technik to implement them.

The solution

The heart of the new heating systems is the intelligent 3-in-1 solution, Smart Actuator, from SAUTER. Smart Actuator combines an integrated actuator with a freely programmable automation station and an IoT communication interface into a single autonomous unit. In addition to the system's low space requirements, users benefit from user-friendly operation. By connecting to the SAUTER cloud, the heating systems can be monitored and managed centrally and remotely via the SAUTER app. With demand-based control and time programs integrated directly into the drive, the SAUTER Smart Actuator also offers great potential for sustainable energy savings. Thanks to interoperability with BACnet, integration into building automation systems is simple and secure. Automation stations from the SAUTER modulo 6 product range with an integrated moduWeb Unity web server were also used for integration with the building control system in the town hall.

The result

Through the modernization of heating systems, Möglingen is preparing for the future, particularly in the face of higher energy prices and stricter energy conservation regulations. The SAUTER Smart Actuator plays a key role in this. Thanks to intelligent functions for measuring, monitoring, and processing, it ensures that HVAC systems operate consistently and efficiently and that unnecessary heating is prevented. This lowers energy consumption, reduces wear and tear, and leads to longer maintenance intervals and extended operating times. In doing so, it creates the basis for classification in Energy Efficiency Class A. Furthermore, it also enables compliance with building automation requirements according to GACS, such as data access via freely configurable interfaces, the monitoring, recording, and analysis of all building technology systems, and the identification of savings and optimization potential.
