Public lighting using DC voltage is becoming increasingly attractive.
Renewable energy installations in combination with battery storage systems are used as an energy source. This saves a conversion battle.
DC leakage currents often cause problems in grounded grid systems. They cause corrosion and pitting on pipes, concrete reinforcement in tunnels, earthing points and other conductive parts. They can also result in the damage or destruction of screens on signal cables and even cause fires. Because the return path of the DC leakage currents is not closed in ungrounded grid systems (IT grid systems), stray currents cannot propagate.
It is possible to monitor in the ungrounded grid system in the MegaOhm range or higher, so that deterioration of the measured insulation value can be detected very early.
This is a significant improvement compared to a grounded DC grid system where there may be unexpected shutdowns.
Therefore safe by design.
