During the seminar on Thursday, September 29, five experts will discuss the safe handling of hazardous substances in the laboratory from various perspectives. They will discuss, among other things, the Risk Inventory & Evaluation sector for laboratories and the impact of incidents in a lab. Experienced experts share their expertise and methods with the aim of creating awareness about the risks and providing tools on how to limit risks.

According to legislation, the Arbo risk inventory for hazardous substances must be complete and describe all risks. The substances and the associated risks must be included in a substances register. But how do you deal with this as an employer, and what is 'fully inventoried'? After all, several dozen, if not hundreds, of hazardous substances are present in a laboratory. Arco Engelen from HumanNova during the seminar will briefly discuss the difference in occupational health and safety legislation and environmental legislation for laboratories. He also gives an example of how to set up a substances register.

Marieke Schenkel from Polygon Netherlands discusses the impact of fire and water damage in laboratories. What should you consider if an emergency strikes a laboratory, what is the role of the Salvage Foundation and the fire brigade in this, what is possible consequential damage and what are the personal consequences? In addition, the actions to be taken after a disaster in a laboratory are discussed. Marieke also discusses the impact of released harmful substances and HCL.
