TDK Corporation (TSE 6762) Introduces two new models in the 5 kW TDK-Lambda GENESYS+™ series of programmable DC power supplies with high power density. This extension allows engineers to select output voltage and current in small steps, almost seamlessly, in the range of 0-10 V/500 A to 0-1500 V/3.4 A. The 5 kW high-voltage power supplies are designed for use in automotive testing, including electric and hybrid vehicles with high-voltage batteries, for general and research T&M applications, and in semiconductor manufacturing, battery manufacturing and renewable energy applications.

The two new models offer 0-1000V/0-5A and 0-1500V/0-3.4A programmable outputs. They can be specified for three-phase 170 to 265VAC inputs or wide range 342 to 528VAC inputs, with active PFC (power factor correction). The supplies can operate in constant current, constant voltage or limited constant power modes, and offer internal resistance simulation.

The series benefits from DSP technology and the latest generation of components, including ferrite materials, to achieve efficiencies of up to 92%. Less internal waste heat enables higher power without compromising reliability.

The GENESYS+™ 5 kW is 423 mm wide, 486.5 mm deep and 43.6 mm high (1U) and is suitable for zero stack rack mounting. Cooling is provided by fans that adjust their speed based on the ambient temperature and output load. This results in less audible noise, which reduces operator fatigue. The weight of the power supply is less than 8.5 kg.

All models in the GENESYS+™ series feature a high-contrast, wide-viewing-angle LCD display, with user-adjustable brightness and dimming functions, faster response times for up and down programming, and user-adjustable voltage and current slew rate control. Test profiles of arbitrary waveforms of up to 100 steps can be generated and stored in four memory cells. These can be activated via the communications ports or the front panel controls.

For additional power, the 5kW units utilise TDK-Lambda’s advanced patent-pending paralleling system, which allows multiple units to be connected with similar dynamic load response, ripple and noise characteristics to a single power supply. Up to 12 GENESYS+™ units can be connected in parallel very simply by running a single data link cable between the units and connecting the DC outputs. The control and auxiliary units automatically configure themselves by detecting the parallel data link and setting their parameters accordingly.

All 1 kW to 60 kW models of the GENESYS+™ series are programmed in the same way. This can be done as standard using the control buttons on the front panel, remotely via LAN (LXI 1.5), USB 2.0 and RS232/485 or via the isolated analogue control and monitoring interface (0-5 V, 0-10 V). Optional interfaces include EtherCAT, Modbus-TCP and GPIB (IEEE488.2). The software package includes software drivers, a waveform generator and a virtual GUl for the front panel. Safety is ensured by standard features such as Safe/Auto Re-Start and Last Setting Memory, as well as various built-in protection functions. To prevent unauthorized changes to the device settings, there is an option with a front panel without a display.

The power supplies are covered by a five-year warranty. They are safety certified to IEC/EN/UL/CSA 61010-1 and are CE and UKCA marked for the Low Voltage, EMC and RoHS Directives. The series also meets the IEC/EN 61204-3 Class A standard for conducted EMI, radiated EMI and EMC immunity.
