Renewable fuels and other biofuels play a growing role in the supply of automotive fuels. Currently, fatty acid methyl ester (FAME), usually derived from vegetable oil, is blended with regular diesel fuel at a rate of 5-10 %. An alternative to the fairly pricey fresh vegetable oil is a recycled variant from the food industry.

The most common analysis technique to analyze these products is ICP. Mario van Driessche will tell you all about this during the LabAnalyse event. He highlights a completely new approach to elemental analysis on these products using ED-PXRF, in which the oxygen on these products is also determined and the matrix effect of oxygen is thus compensated.
