Limiting the inrush current is crucial to prevent unwanted tripping of the circuit breakers when a lighting circuit with multiple LED drivers is switched on. At this point, the capacitors in the LED drivers are simultaneously charged, which can result in a brief current spike that is higher than during normal operation. This problem is typically solved by using soft-start circuits, which limit the inrush current and prevent current spikes.
A ready-made solution for this is the ESG6 from Block. It limits the current to 16A when the drivers are switched on. Furthermore, the ESG6 is equipped with a variable time limit and integrated thermal protection. The input circuit is also protected by a fuse and an integrated thermal fuse. The ESG6 is DIN-rail mounted, making it easy to mount in the meter cupboard. Plug-in and table-top models are also available.
