Blockchain is causing far-reaching changes, both in society and in the laboratory. It offers the possibility to transfer and store data via the internet in a secure manner. Many hospital laboratories are state of the art, but the process of data exchange between these laboratories is often hopelessly outdated. Many provisions are still sent by post. Norbert Schmidt from Labchain explains how it can be done.

Nowadays it is possible to exchange encrypted data via a blockchain and peer-to-peer software with maximum privacy and transparency. This not only results in enormous cost and time savings, but also prevents errors. The solution is highly scalable and immediately deployable and is currently already active in the academic hospitals of Maastricht and Nijmegen.
