A total of 44 companies and institutions (excl. sole proprietorships) were declared bankrupt in week 13 (March 23 to 29), reports CBS. That is 16 fewer than in week 12.

CBS has announced that it will publish weekly figures on bankruptcies declared by the courts during the corona crisis. This happens every Thursday afternoon at 12:00 noon.

A total of 767 companies and institutions went bankrupt in the first 13 weeks of 2020. That is 3 fewer than in the same period of 2019. The trend from 2019 onwards is fairly flat. In the trade sector, 8 companies have gone bankrupt, making it the most affected sector to date.

Statistics Netherlands says that there may be several weeks between the application and the declaration of bankruptcy. From week 14 onwards, the courts will hold the petitions (if another party requests the judge to declare a company bankrupt) for at least four weeks, unless there is urgency. In addition, there is one by the cabinet emergency package for the economy and jobs set up to support companies and institutions as much as possible.
