Commissioning, the enabler for the building to function optimally
The Dutch Building Commissioning Association (DBCxA) has been a recognized non-profit organization since 2013. The DBCxA has the structure of a platform and is an "outwardly" oriented organization that promotes the acceptance and application of commissioning as an efficient method performance assurance of buildings and homes in the Netherlands. The DBCA is a collaboration of organizations that have united with the mission to ensure that commissioning is accepted in the Netherlands as an efficient method for performance assurance.
Leading organizations such as DGBC, FEDEC, FHI Gebouw Automatisering, FME, ISSO, NVBV, NVDO, SBR, TVVL, VCCN and VERAC have taken the initiative for the DBCxA and, as stakeholders, demonstrate commitment to promoting commissioning in the Netherlands. By better guaranteeing the quality of construction processes, buildings and installations, the platform contributes to a healthier working environment, better work performance, better energy performance and cost savings by limiting failure costs. This also contributes to the transition to a sustainable society.
The demand for commissioning services is increasing in the Netherlands because increasingly higher demands are being placed on the sustainability of buildings. In methods commissioning is now a mandatory part of the assessment of the sustainability of a building such as BREEAM and LEED. Where can you find these commissioners and how is the quality of the commissioners guaranteed? Setting up independent certification, registration and permanent education is necessary to guarantee the quality of the commissioners. In addition, the DBCA is committed to increasing awareness of the reasons why commissioning is necessary, such as the destruction of capital due to energy waste in non-residential buildings or mistakes made during the construction phase.
Bert Elkhuizen, board member of the Dutch Building Commissioning Association, gives an overview of the progress and spearheads of the DBCA in his presentation during the Bits, Bricks & Behavior conference.
