In the closing plenary lecture of Energy Storage 2020, Mark Bolech of TNO will shed light on his vision of the future of energy storage. Mark Bolech is a researcher at TNO within the circular economy and environment unit. The common thread of his presentation is how storage, conversion and the circular economy will and should reinforce each other.

Energy storage and conversion are the pillars for the sustainable energy and industrial system of the future. Examples of energy storage are reservoirs and batteries, while conversion involves the conversion of sustainable energy into hydrogen or metals.

Energy storage and conversion is the connecting technology that enables, among other things, zero-emission transport, circular industry and climate-neutral living. And moreover, probably makes it a reality soon. This technology fits in perfectly with the current energy transition.
