For all FHI members we are organizing an inspiring networking afternoon on Thursday afternoon June 30th in Leusden. To get fresh ideas we have invited De WAR. This is a breeding ground for innovation, sustainability, art and technology.

Fourteen years ago, Harmen Zijp and Diana Wildschut were the founders of cultural breeding ground De WAR. The breeding ground, completely unsubsidized and self-sufficient, has grown into an indispensable place for anyone looking for a way 'off the beaten track'.

The WAR is located in the former Willem 3 barracks in Amersfoort. WAR wants to give a broad audience insight into the latest scientific breakthroughs. The WAR also tries to develop its own ideas through applied knowledge and the latest technology. In doing so, the breeding ground uses the adage: “Good idea! There are the tools. Go do it!”

Within the network that has been built up by WAR, the knowledge is available to solve problems encountered and more than twenty projects in the field of innovation, sustainability, creativity and education have now found their way.

A nice example is the Citizen Science project Meet je Stad. In this initiative for 'citizen science', the process of science does not take place at a university, but simply with people from the city of Amersfoort. In this project, 'citizens' measure the temperature, humidity, light incidence and particulate matter in their city. They learn how a certain sensor works, how to make a graph from measurement data and what the influence of climate is on... you name it.

The WAR also has several 'open' labs that everyone can use. For example, the FabLab is for the latest digital production techniques. In the Biolab you do research in the field of biology or chemistry. And in the Transition Lab small-scale, low-budget solutions for sustainable energy and food supply are being developed.

In short, the world is changing! On June 30, FHI will inspire you with the ideas of De WAR on sustainability, open knowledge, own initiative, evolution and diversity.
