The GERSTEL PyroVial performs pyrolysis procedures at temperatures up to 800 °C in a special sample vial. Less volatile and thermally labile pyrolysis products can be dissolved in a suitable solvent and then analyzed by e.g. GC/MS or LC/MS. Volatile pyrolysis products can be sampled directly from the headspace for GC/MS determination.
Placing a sample in the reaction chamber is simple and the pyrolysis process is fully automated thanks to the GERSTEL MultiPurpose Sampler (MPS robotic).
PyroVial can be used as a microscale reaction chamber, the gas phase can be replaced by an inert gas or a reactant, if necessary. Food preparation processes, such as the Maillard reaction, can be simulated on a microscale and the formed flavour components determined. Pyrolysis of polymers, for example those based on polar acrylic resins, can be followed by HPLC determination of the reaction products. Reagents or catalysts can be added before pyrolysis, allowing simulation of complex industrial processes.
The use of the PyroVial offers a number of advantages such as simple operation, GC/MS, LC/MS analysis of the pyrolysis degradation products and the PyroVial can be used as a reaction chamber.
Simple operation is made possible by the complete automation thanks to the GERSTEL MPSrobotic, all parameters can be set with a mouse click. Furthermore, the PyroVial sample holders simplify the use of the pyrolysis samples. Derivatization can be selected before or after pyrolysis.
Analysis of pyrolysis degradation products can be performed by GC/MS, LC/MS or other assays. Volatile pyrolysis products can be directly sampled and analyzed by Headspace-GC/MS. Polymers and polar pyrolysis products are solvated in the PyroVial and analyzed by LC/MS, GC/MS or other methods. In addition, pyrolysis products are fractionated.
Use the PyroVial as a reaction chamber for a gas phase exchange with inert gas or reaction gas before pyrolysis. Simulation of industrial processes by adding reagents or catalysts before pyrolysis is also possible.
