The Social Economic Council (SER) is meeting this week advice came to the cabinet calling for goods sold via international platforms in the Netherlands to comply with European legislation and regulations. Additional legislation and possible sanctions allow Dutch companies to compete on a level playing field with companies outside the EU.

The SER's advice includes 24 recommendations to create a fairer playing field regarding direct imports from outside the EU. This specifically concerns trading on online platforms. This fairer playing field can be achieved through better monitoring of existing legislation and regulations. The government's intention is to initiate legislation for this in July next year.

With this advice, the SER wants to ensure that the quality requirements for foreign products are better met. For example, a CE mark is sometimes wrongly placed on products, while Dutch manufacturers do so according to the rules.

VNO-NCW and MKB-Nederland scissors supports this advice from the SER. FHI also thinks so level playing field should be pursued between the European Union and other countries. This benefits the Dutch entrepreneur. For more information see us spearhead: innovation in the industry.
