HARTING offers the metal hoods and housings for the Han® B-, EMC- and M-serie in versions that allow the mounting of contact inserts on the rear. The new option simplifies the equipping of electrical cabinets with interfaces. The target is applications in machinery and automation, robotics and traffic and energy technology.

Han® industrial connectors with a metal hood or enclosure are particularly suitable for environments that require a high degree of robustness of components and the simplest possible installation. Until now, however, during assembly, the cable had to be fed through an opening in the control cabinet first, so that the inserts could be mounted outside the cabinet and then pulled back into the bulkhead-mounted enclosure. The new Han® solutions are different: They make it possible to lock the prefabricated inserts directly into the bulkhead-mounted enclosure – from inside the control cabinet.

Instead, the inserts are placed in a plastic frame, which is locked into the aluminum die-cast hood or housing with latches. The bulkhead housing flange seal is completely internal to ensure an IP 65/67 seal and to provide protection against exposure to UV radiation and ozone emissions.

Rear mounting with Han® B (Cabinet) Rear mounting – from inside the cabinet – with Han® B

By the end of the year, rear mounting inserts with a continuous 360° shielding will be available: with Han® EMC, the shielding is always on the metal hood or housing. The hoods also require special EMC cable glands.

The assembly of prefabricated units becomes more efficient thanks to this new option: Control cabinets or machine modules and wiring harnesses can largely be pre-assembled separately. The division of labor for installations has changed: The amount of pre-assembly work has increased and overall the work can now be completed more cost-effectively.

The new Han® connectors with rear mounting option are fully compatible with the previous metal housings: All inserts and modules that can be integrated into the existing standards also fit into the new rear-mounted housings and hoods. Machine and control cabinet developers as well as production planners can gradually introduce rear mounting into their products or productions.

The new Han® hoods and housings are used in the mechanical engineering, robotics and energy generation markets, such as in wind power plants. The hoods and housings of the Han® M series are mainly used outdoors.
