Han-Modular® – New (shielded) modules for future-proof power, data & signal transmission
Han-Modular® stands for the combination of power, data and signals – like no other connector. In fact, the series set the trend towards modular connectors. The system is not only very versatile, but also flexible and future-proof. New and future requirements can be quickly and easily integrated into the existing modular system.
Higher power transfer with up to 300 A / 1200 V
The energy storage systems market is currently in a very dynamic phase. Existing requirements change, new requirements are added, while power density increases and systems must become more efficient at the same time.
The current systems operate with 200 A / 800 V DC. Future generations will require even higher power density with up to 300 A and 1200 V.

With these requirements in mind HARTING developed the 300 A module, which is backward compatible with the proven 200 A module. Consequently, the new module can also be connected to the 200 A module (in which case only the lower rated power would be available). Existing systems can therefore easily be upgraded. The new module is designed in such a way that both direct connections to a busbar and installations in slide-in systems are easily possible. The market requirement that the module must be touch-safe on both the bus and pin sides has also been met.

The demand for higher transmission speeds drives the continued development of data interfaces. This applies not only to the office environment, but also to industry, where the benefits of modular interfaces come into their own. All common, standard bus systems can be easily adapted, including Profibus, Profinet, CAN, Ethernet Cat. 5, Cat. 6A and Cat. 7A.
Thanks to the M12 module, there is now an additional option to integrate 10 Gbit/s Ethernet into modular connectors. The module allows a significant reduction in space requirements as two D- or X-coded M12 connectors fit in a single module. Compared to conventional RJ45 solutions, the M12 system is also more robust and offers greater operational reliability.
Creating modular interfaces for shielded lines
The new Han® Shielded Power Module has three power contacts and a PE contact for connecting typical three-phase loads. It also has two signal contacts for temperature monitoring, braking, etc. and a large shield that allows EMC-compliant connection of the cable shield directly to the module. This module provides an alternative to hardwiring shielded power cables and also allows such connections to be made alongside other modules of the Han-Modular® series in one hood or housing.

HARTING has tested the new module in practical applications in the EMC laboratory: The EMC properties of the shielding in the Han® Shielded power module are fully suitable for typical drive applications such as frequency-controlled three-phase motors or other loads. This makes it possible to connect shielded power lines and is easy to use and allows direct connection of the shield to the module. This reduces installation times for machines and systems, both in a factory and at the end customer.
The series will also have an EMC-protected signal transmission module. With a large shielding and an additional 360° shielding plate, the module not only provides excellent shielding, but also ensures a high transmission volume in a minimum of space. 27 shielded D-Sub contacts up to 4A / 32V can be connected. Called Han® Shielded Module Basic, this new product will provide a simple and cost-effective way for users in, for example, the machinery and robotics sectors to integrate shielded transmission into modular connectors.
