Cees Keyer
On February 9, 2022, FHI received the sad message that Cees Keyer has passed away. We remember the former chairman of the Dutch EMC-ESD Association as a beautiful, warm and funny person who graced the world of technicians.
His first name was always pronounced differently by members, board members, FHI colleagues and students. The main question is: is it Kees or Sees?
In any case, it is EMCees ... and therefore Sees for me.
On June 18, 2021, Cees Keyer received his PhD from the University of Twente. Cees's life's work was not only that doctorate. He knew how to share his passion for technology with everyone. With a candle in the background, he showed those present that this technique caused the fewest disruptions. For example, he used humor as a weapon on many fronts, in order to propose technically sensible solutions.
The humor was also always visible in the notes under his emails, such as:
'After the introduction of Little Red Riding Hood, the face mask was introduced, the result of which is the common stray mask.'
or for example
'To complete your work at the AUAS you must suffer from a dissociative identity disorder. Then you can work twice as many hours per day!'
In the statements of his dissertation, humor was given a function to express the messages of his life:
The influence of modern power electronics on the dynamic behavior of the mains is largely unknown.
and
The grid pollution problem is part of electromagnetic compatibility.
My translation of his message is a question: why do you pollute something as beautiful as a perfect sinus with thoughtless technology? If we measure properly and deploy the appropriate expertise, we prevent problems for society as a whole. For me, Cees embodied the goal of the technician: strive for practical solutions.
He once emailed me the following: I arrive at 110% expenditure on charity. Of course I get questions about this. What should I answer to that?
If Cees Keyer asked you something, you helped him. When he spoke, you listened. When he made a joke you couldn't help but laugh.
Thanks for everything Cees!
