IoT, 4G and 5G and the challenges of wireless products
With the abundance of technological innovations, there is an increasing need for well-functioning wireless products. Engineers want to avoid pitfalls during the development of IoT, 4G and 5G applications. The TOP-electronics speaker will be there presentation into how RF characteristics can be controlled during the development cycle. With a smart antenna design, sensitivity to reflections can be reduced. Günter Pfeifer treats Over-the-Air (OTA) testing related to 5G.

During the development of wireless products, problems can arise with the antennas. The main thing is that an engineer knows what to pay attention to. Antennas are not just components. They must be implemented with attention to their application and environment. The antenna impedance must be adjusted and the radiation pattern must meet certain criteria. The presentation by Roger Denker from TOP-electronics focuses on the early development of prototypes for IoT and 4G frequencies.
5G NR in the subrange of 6 GHz (FR1) can be seen as a natural evolution of LTE to achieve higher bandwidth and more flexibility at the physical layer. The opportunity then arises to realize all the new and additional use cases defined for a next-generation mobile network. The real technical challenge, however, comes with 5G mmWave (FR2). That opens up a new level of complexity in device development. The mmWave frequencies imply measurement challenges that require new testing approaches. The speaker from Rohde & Schwarz takes a closer look at one of these challenges and indicates what should be taken into account in FR2 testing
