Brief economic corona news from October 15

- The RIVM reports 7833 new confirmed corona infections on Thursday, 537 more than the day before and a new daily record. The National Coordination Center for Patient Distribution reports that there are now 1526 corona patients in the hospital, of whom 313 are in the ICU. That is an increase of 51 patients.
- A corona breath test developed by the Leiden company Breathomix can be used at GGD testing centers from November, writes Nu.nlThe device can rule out corona infections after a few seconds by detecting particles in the air that people exhale. The hope is that the breath tests will reduce the pressure on existing testing capacity.
- A validation trial by TNO and GGD Amsterdam with the TNO rapid test has been successfully completed. The results of the rapid tests were comparable to the results of standard PCR tests, TNO reports.
- Dutch banks believe that the 'lockdown light' that was introduced to prevent the spread of the coronavirus will put an end to the economic recovery after the first wave in the short term. Rabobank is the most pessimistic and expects growth to be halved next year, writes the FD.
- The CBS reports that in week 41 a total of 49 companies and institutions were declared bankrupt. This is an increase of 2 compared to week 40.
