Brief economic corona news from January 19

- The RIVM reports 4335 new corona infections on Tuesday, 479 fewer than Monday and the lowest level in two months. The number of new hospital admissions with corona patients increased by 15 on Tuesday to 101.
- The cabinet is preparing a curfew, writes the NOS. This should apply until 9 February and should help contain the effects of the more contagious British variant of the coronavirus. It is expected that people will only be allowed to go out with an employer's statement. With this they can prove that they are making a journey between work and home. A new press conference will follow tomorrow afternoon.
- The effects of a curfew on the economy are minimal, according to a number of economists against BNRIf the number of infections decreases, a curfew could even have a beneficial effect because the Netherlands could then come out of lockdown sooner.
- Würth, one of the world's largest companies in screws, bolts and plugs, expects a strong economic recovery later this year. That says CEO Robert Friedmann in the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung. The German multinational expects to hire thousands of new employees this year once the corona outbreak is under control.
- In recent weeks, Dutch highways have been busier than during the first lockdown in March, when traffic volume decreased by 50 percent. Currently, the decrease is around 20 percent, so says the ANWB in NRC.
