• The RIVM reports 4129 new corona infections on Monday. That is 775 fewer than Sunday and below the weekly average. Furthermore, the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport reports that 152,000 Dutch people were vaccinated against the coronavirus on Sunday.
  • Moderna claims that its vaccine also protects against new variants of the coronavirus, including the British and South African variants.
  • Pharmaceutical company Merck & Co. has just stopped further development of its two experimental vaccines. Both vaccines, based on weakened viruses instead of RNA technology, showed worse results in terms of immunity than natural infections with the coronavirus or existing vaccines, according to the company says. Merck & Co. will now focus on treatments for COVID-19.
  • The number of foreign tourists fell by 65 percent in 2020 compared to the previous year. The number of visitors from our own country who went to campsites, hotels and holiday homes last year also fell by a quarter as a result of the corona crisis, as shown by NTBC figures.
  • Partly due to the corona pandemic, Philips has had a good year. The company delivered more ventilators in particular. In the fourth quarter of 2020, Philips' turnover growth was 7 percent, according to the read the multinational's website.
