- Eleven listed companies are actively cutting the salaries of their top executives. Institutional investors believe that these large companies should be allowed to suffer as long as they receive state support. Director Rients Abma of the umbrella organization Eumedion says on BNR Nieuwsradio that the most important thing is that companies survive the crisis.
- The European car industry can count on large-scale financial EU support. In the German Handelsblatt European Commissioner for Internal Market Thierry Breton says that approximately 10 percent of a coming reconstruction program should end up in the European 'mobility sector'.
- It German research institute Ifo states that German economic activity has fallen by 16 percent since the corona restrictions came into effect. Ifo thinks that Germany's economic contraction will be at least 6.2 percent this year.
- Three quarters of entrepreneurs in Brabant and Zeeland expect liquidity problems, according to a report survey by VNO-NCW. More than half think they will have to dismiss staff, while 60 percent use the NOW scheme. Eric van Schagen, chairman of VNO-NCW Brabant Zeeland and former chairman of FHI, says about that: “Entrepreneurs need perspective. That perspective will be offered if a second package of emergency measures is introduced.”
- The corona crisis will also come to an end at some point. The ideas competition Kraak de Crisis calls on entrepreneurs to come up with plans on how we can reorganize our society and economy after the crisis. The spearheads are CO₂ reduction, a circular economy and a more socially just Netherlands. Ten finalists will be offered a coaching program, while the winner can earn 25,000 euros. Voting is possible until May 3.
