Brief economic corona news from January 5

- The RIVM reported 6,412 new positive corona tests on Tuesday. That is less than the average of the seven previous days, which is 8,248. However, according to the RIVM, there are no 'convincing effects' of the hard lockdown.
- The number of corona patients in Dutch ICUs has grown to 731, an increase of thirteen compared to Monday. There are currently 2,159 corona patients in other hospital wards. That is 29 more than on Monday.
- The European Union is conducting negotiations with pharmaceutical companies Pfizer and Biontech on an agreement for 100 million new doses of their corona vaccine. That reports Bloomberg. There is also an option for another 200 million doses.
- The Dutch population grew much less than expected last year as a result of the corona crisis. On balance, 63,000 residents were added, approximately half less than in 2019 reports CBS.
- The willingness among the Dutch population to be vaccinated against the coronavirus has increased. Currently, 75 percent of Dutch people say they want to be vaccinated, compared to 69 percent a few weeks ago. That writes the NOS based on a poll by research agency Ipsos.
