- The RIVM reports 4618 new corona infections on Thursday. That is 1222 more than Wednesday and above the weekly average of last week (3649). Hospital occupancy increased.
- KLM reports a loss of over 1.2 billion euros in 2020. The parent company Air-France KLM even recorded red figures of 7.1 billion euros. Air France-KLM's mountain of debt has risen to 11 billion euros, almost 5 billion euros more than a year earlier. KLM does not see recovery of aviation until 2024.
- Last year, fewer foreign companies established themselves in the Netherlands as a result of the corona crisis. 305 companies came to the Netherlands, about a quarter less than a year earlier, reports the Netherlands Foreign Investment Agency (NFIA). An estimated 8,600 jobs have been created and 1.9 billion euros have been invested.
- The Pfizer/Biontech vaccine appears to be less effective against the South African variant of the coronavirus. It may be two-thirds less effective and it is even unclear whether the vaccine works at all, writes Reuters based on laboratory research.
- Unemployment has fallen sharply over the past three months. Between October and January, the number of unemployed fell by an average of 23,000 per month, according to let CBS knowThis is the strongest decline since the start of monthly measurements in 2003.
- Since the outbreak of the corona crisis, Belgians are less satisfied with their jobs, a study by KU Leuven and Tempo-Team concludes. The relationship with colleagues has deteriorated, employees experience less job satisfaction and miss their colleagues. One in ten is looking for another job, writes the VRT.
