Mauritshuis, Kropman, Priva and the Girl with a Pearl Earring
FHI, Federation of Technology Industries – June 12, 2018
To what extent have climate and lighting conditions changed 'Girl with a Pearl Earring' over the centuries? Based on this question, the Mauritshuis looked at the principles for building automation on site during its major renovation recently. Thanks to Kropman's system integration, the Mauritshuis technical department now has access to all parameters of the various installations: air treatment, central heating, cooling and heating, local adjustments, all lighting, sun blinds and light barriers, notifications from disabled toilets, the emergency power supply and monitoring energy use. Kropman opted for a building management system from Priva. This system consists of standard hardware components with engineering tools that allow partner companies to write their own software on a project basis. The different systems each work with their own communication protocol and their own language. For example, the lighting communicates via a KNX protocol, while the climate is controlled via Priva (TCP/IP). Operation can be done via a PC on site, remotely or via a user-friendly graphic touchscreen. Administrators and employees of the Mauritshuis can monitor and operate the various functions of building automation in one overview. “It can be useful to involve IT specialists not only after delivery, but also at the front end, when drawing up the package of requirements. In a building there is always an interaction between technology and architecture. For example, the Mauritshuis opted for glass with a solar filter, which reduces heat and UV radiation. This influences the choice of the capacity of the climate installations. Automation is never an isolated part of a construction project. The technology is in constant dialogue with the building, in a search for the best solution for the user.” This lesson from the recent business case of the FHI Building Automation sector comes from the then business director of the Mauritshuis Victor Moussault. The complete story will be published in the magazine 'Construction + Implementation' edition number 3 2017. The business case will also be available on the industry website in mid-June. Victor Moussault described his experiences in a book he wrote: 'The focus on others, as a foundation for success', Waanders Uitgevers, Zwolle, managementboek.nl
