Dutch SMEs have had to take a hard hit as a result of the corona crisis. Yet a majority of entrepreneurs see light at the end of the tunnel.
This is evident from the results of online research by MKB Servicedesk and Motivaction among more than six hundred self-employed people and SME entrepreneurs. The results of the so-called SME corona monitor show that more than 20 percent of respondents had to suspend their activities as a result of the 'intelligent lockdown'. Yet two-thirds of entrepreneurs think they will survive the corona crisis, while 15 percent fear for its survival.
Approximately half of those surveyed think that government measures will be insufficient, while 40 percent think that the measures will help. Among SMEs, a majority say they have sufficient buffers, but again 40 percent expect that their own buffers will be insufficient.
To date, a third of SME entrepreneurs have applied for income support from the government. A quarter have opted for shorter working hours. But other emergency measures are also being taken. For example, 66 percent have stopped all unnecessary expenditure and 44 percent have put investments on hold. There is also tighter financial planning.
