Should the doors of a fire safety cabinet close automatically?
What's the situation now?
More and more often we are confronted with the statement that the door(s) of a fire safety storage cabinet must always close immediately. In other words; if you let go of the door, it must close immediately.
Is this correct?
In NEN 14470-1, section 5.2 states: the cabinet doors must be completely self-closing from any position!
But it also says: if a hold-open function is present, the doors must close completely at a temperature of 50°C near the front of the cabinet. The temperature release sensor must be placed in freely circulating air, so that it can warm up quickly. With us, the “release sensor” is not an option, but a standard component!
Fire safety storage cabinets equipped with a hold-open function are fully compliant with EN 14470-1 and even DIN12925-1:1998.
An additional advantage is that the user can work much more safely. He has both hands free to safely place the chemicals in the cabinet or to take them out.
