Connectors for railway applications must not only be extremely robust, but also simple and quick to install and easy to maintain. That is why HARTING has developed new interfaces for railway vehicles.

High performance for transformers

Han® HPR HPTC – high performance transformer connector – is a series transformer connectors which have been developed for railway customers and meet all market requirements. Covers, housings and cable glands are optimized for outdoor use: everything is designed very robustly, so that the connection between pantograph, transformer and train busbar remains stable in the long term. Existing contours on the transformer can be reused, so design changes are not necessary.

The product meets the requirements for easy assembly, maximum safety and a minimum number of components used. On the cable side, a crimped contact is inserted into a three-piece, touch-safe insulation part. In addition, there is a cable gland that protects against dust and moisture, and is also part of the shielding, absorbs differential currents and transfers them to the housing. The new HPTC series complies with all relevant railway standards.

New jumper housing system

The Han® HPR VarioShell is a housing system specifically designed for jumper applications. Using a mounting frame, the two-piece housing/hood achieves a rating of IP69K, thanks to the all-round internal seal. Since the cover is removable, the housing/hood can be fitted from the inside of the railway vehicle as well as from the outside.

The easy accessibility also minimizes the effort required for operation, service and maintenance. This is because in the event of a failure, not all connections need to be interrupted. You only need to open the housing cover to locate and replace the faulty conductors or contacts.

The contours of the VarioShell allow dirt deposits to slide off. For example, special channels direct water away from the screws that secure the housing so that rust does not form. Special curves at the top ensure that ice and snow move and slide down the sides without putting pressure on the wall and housing. This extends the service life of the interface.

TrainPowerLine for the vehicle network

More efficient energy consumption and less complexity are important trends in the rail sector. The Han® HPR TrainPowerLine (TPL) replaces existing solutions such as UIC, power or Y-distributors for train busbars.

This is aimed at modern trains operating in a network, and offers weight benefits of up to 10 kilograms per railway vehicle, compared to previous standards. Very little space is required to reliably power all the train's electrical equipment and systems.

The housing is based on the Han® HPR design and is made of corrosion-resistant aluminum casting. Therefore, the TPL is ideally suited for use in harsh environmental conditions or outdoor applications. The contours of the main body effectively remove dirt and ice to the sides.
