During PROFIdag 2024 you will discover the latest trends in the field of PROFIBUS, PROFINET and IO-Link. The program offers various lectures, workshops and practical examples. Rien Broekkamp, Manager Software Engineering at Powerspex, is one of the speakers and explains why he is at PROFIdag.

Powerspex

Powerspex, with offices in Hengelo (OV) and Veenendaal, is a system integrator that is mainly active in the energy sector. “We are at home in all markets: Electrical & Instrumentation (E&I) engineering, software engineering, panel building, assembly and training simulators, everything around process automation solutions,” says Rien proudly. “Powerspex has been around for 28 years now and has approximately 140 employees, 22 of whom are software engineers.” At the PROFI day, Powerspex will give a lecture on the Ethernet Advanced Physical Layer (APL) project that they have applied, as the first project in the Netherlands.

APL in practice

“We do a lot of Siemens automation projects,” says Rien “Both in Factory Automation (S7-1500) and in Process Automation (PCS7). “For Veolia Sarpi in Almelo we carried out a project in which APL transmitters were used. One of our tasks was to supply and program a Siemens PCS7 system. This was the first project in the Netherlands in which APL was used. APL works as 'plug and play'. The transmitters collect a huge amount of data and it is almost impossible to connect it incorrectly.”

What does Powerspex expect from PROFIdag?

Both exhibitors and visitors come to PROFIdag with certain expectations. Rien: “Initially, we especially like to talk about our experiences with APL in this project. In addition, we are always open to making contact with other technicians. Our strength and added value lies in process knowledge in energy systems in energy-related sectors. These are 24/7 systems, the continuous process industry. We are looking for partners to work with in this and we see PROFIdag as an excellent opportunity for this. At PROFIdag, we would like to get in touch with companies that have issues regarding process automation.”
