Summer has arrived and the holidays are just around the corner. Many colleagues are going on holiday. Some in the Netherlands, others across the border. And with the coronavirus still active, this can cause a lot of worries.

For example, what if your employee gets stuck in another country? Or is required to quarantine after returning to the Netherlands? Can you make agreements about this with the staff? Yes, you can. Here is a handy concept letter/email that you can send to your employees before they go on holiday during this corona period.

Dear colleague,

The holidays are just around the corner. A wonderful time and we wish those who are going on holiday a good trip and time. At the same time, we ask you to plan your trip wisely. After all, the Corona virus is not yet out of the world.

The website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs lists the areas to which travel is discouraged. We cannot forbid you to go on holiday to a risk area, but this is not wise. We therefore strongly advise against it. Think of your health and that of your colleagues!

If you do go on holiday to an area that now appears to be a risk area, you are consciously taking a risk. If that risk manifests itself, in the form of mandatory quarantine, reporting sick or the impossibility of returning to the Netherlands (in time), we unfortunately have to inform you that this will be at your own expense and risk. A longer absence than the absence as agreed in the individual holiday agreement can be deducted from your holiday balance in consultation, and as long as there is a positive balance of holiday days available.

If there is no positive balance of vacation days, no wages will be paid for these days. This may be different if there are possibilities to work from home and people actually work from home. This will then be discussed with your manager. We naturally hope that everyone returns from vacation safely and on time, and in good health!

Enjoy your -safe- holiday and summer greetings,
