Presentation Bits, Bricks & Behavior: Increasing cyber security of building automation by applying the IEC 62443 standard
Cybersecurity is the aim of preventing damage and, if damage does occur, repairing it. Developing and improving cyber security standards internationally is of great importance. The international standard IEC 62443 applies to building automation. During the Bits, Bricks & Behavior conference, Martin van Cappellen will give Honeywell & Saia Burgess Controls Benelux a lecture on this standard that provides total enterprise security.
In the track Bits by the Bits, Bricks & Behavior Conference the theme of cyber security in building automation comes up regularly. Building automation in the literal sense is increasingly more connected than ever; Building management systems are interconnected for, among other things, climate and lighting, but also with the outside world via networks and the Internet. This entails safety risks.
Our national cybersecurity strategy has the motto “from aware to competent”. Any cyber attacks on buildings, installations and systems must not disrupt daily business operations, cause systems to fail or cause damage. One of the foundations is developing and improving standards internationally. Standards applied in systems used to promote the security and privacy of ICT products and services.
In the lecture by Martin van Cappellen from Honeywell & Saia Burgess Controls Benelux you will receive an explanation of the international standard IEC 62443 and the four security levels of this standard. The intention of the ISA-62443 standard is to extend enterprise security until it meets the requirements for business IT systems. And to combine this with the unique high availability requirements required by IACS (Industrial Automation and Control Systems).
