Robotstraat saves time in Elisabeth-TweeSteden Hospital
Outgoing clinical chemist Bert Westerhuis outlines in BN de Stem how he developed a robot street for rapid blood testing at the Elisabeth-TweeSteden Hospital (ETZ).
There are 250 'cars' driving around in the robot street that continuously collect blood tubes and other human fluids. These then know how to find the right analysis equipment.
The cars are equipped with distance sensors developed by BMW, so that no collisions occur. The carts can also drive themselves to a charging station if the battery is in danger of running out.
According to Westerhuis, the robot street saves enormous time: a doctor can consult the results of an examination within half an hour to 45 minutes. Moreover, the system is of interest to foreign hospitals.
