In the previous section it was already mentioned that working group 5 has adopted and will elaborate on the subject of Process assessment (referred to as Proposed Work Item PWI 101-3).

The ESD facilities required to work ESD safely are well known. However, in many of our EPAs (ESD Protected Areas) processes are running and systems, large or small, are in place to produce or process ESD Sensitive Devices (ESDS). However, hHow “ESD safe” are these?

To date, no guidelines and/or requirements have been drawn up for this within the IEC. The aim of the new assessment document to be drawn up here is therefore to describe methods, means, equipment and techniques that can be used to characterize processes in which ESD Sensitive Devices are processed. The ANSI-ESD document SP17.1 that was published at the end of December last year will serve as a starting point.

The next newsletter will discuss the various process assessment components that will be covered.

If you have any input or would like to help create this new document, we would be happy to hear from you!
