Human influence on the climate is high on the political agenda. In addition to global warming and rising sea levels, the Netherlands is also paying a lot of attention to the nitrogen crisis. As a result of this crisis, the maximum speed on highways has been reduced from 130 km/h to 100 km/h. This is the most drastic measure for citizens, but there are sectors that are much more drastically affected in their activities. For example, farmers must significantly reduce nitrogen emissions from the evaporation of manure, in the form of ammonia. In the search for a solution, Minister Carola Schouten of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality was met with fierce criticism, resulting in large-scale demonstrations by farmers.
