On June 17, 2025, FHI's Power Electronics & Energy Storage event took place in Congrescentrum 1931 in Den Bosch. The day was all about innovation, knowledge sharing and networking within the world of power electronics and energy storage.

The high quality of the visitors was striking: professionals who were very focused on the latest knowledge and products. Exhibitors indicated that they had had valuable conversations, with a focus on practical solutions.

Strong substantive program

This year's lecture programme offered a wide variety of topics and speakers. Plenary speaker Jan Jaap Blüm (SADC) kicked off the day with an inspiring story about collaboration and innovation at Schiphol Trade Park, one of the few work locations in the Randstad where grid congestion is not a problem for business expansion and plot allocation. His message: "Thinking and acting beyond borders, together you get further." The success of the park is partly due to a unique energy sharing, realised through intensive collaboration between government, business and grid operator Liander.

Education track: innovation at universities and colleges

Unique to this edition was the education track, with contributions from technical universities and The Hague University of Applied Sciences. Students and researchers presented their latest innovations with great enthusiasm, which resulted in many reactions from the audience.

Some highlights from the lectures:

  • Who? What? Hydrogen (Don Schriek, Advanced Energy – on behalf of TTI): about the role of hydrogen in the energy transition and the technical aspects that are important for the power supply.
  • EMC Challenges in Energy Storage Systems (Anand Awasthi, Astrodyne – on behalf of Alcom Electronics): Practical solutions for electromagnetic compatibility in battery storage. Including practical case study.
  • Arc Fault Detection in PV Systems and DC Grids (Cemil Karaköz, The Hague University of Applied Sciences): a live demonstration of a prototype for timely arc flash detection attracted a lot of attention and questions from the audience.
  • Sustainable cooling: innovations in thermal interface materials (Ad Musters, Thal Technologies): practical tips on how to approach a thermal problem and which interface materials are most useful.
  • Grid impedance measurement (Christoph Klie, morEnergy – on behalf of Astrolkwx): the importance of grid impedance for good power quality and stable networks.
  • Charging in 4 minutes: how? (InMotion – on behalf of Telerex): students from TU Eindhoven /Inmotion presented their super-fast charging system for electric vehicles.
  • The role of power electronics in high-tech systems (Bas Vermulst, TU Eindhoven): an inspiring keynote lecture on the indispensable role of power electronics in Dutch high-tech, with examples of groundbreaking research.

The day was concluded by chairman Marc Berkouwer of FHI, who summarized the most important insights and thanked the visitors for their active participation. The event proved once again that the Netherlands is a leader in power electronics and energy storage, partly thanks to the close cooperation between industry, education and government.

Would you like to read the presentations again? You can, even if you were not present at the event. Complete the visitor survey and as a thank you you will receive a link to the presentations.

Do you want to know even more about energy storage and power electronics? Then come to the E&A fair, from 23 to 25 September in Jaarbeurs Utrecht.
