Attention to better and smarter cooling has increased over the years. It makes sense for customers to pay more attention to this because this allows them to save on electricity costs. The benefits are also evident for Installers. But there is another reason for the greater attention. The number of rooms that need to be cooled has increased considerably. Data centers and server rooms now come in all sizes.

Here, the solutions for medium-sized spaces are different from those for large spaces. Martijn Kolk, Edgar Hogenbirk and Frans Durieux discuss this in detail in two presentations.

Remote

The arrival of new technologies, such as edge computing, IoT and 5G connectivity, is leading to an explosive increase in the number of spaces in which IT must be housed. In many cases this will require cooling. The cooling of these new IT spaces will be fundamentally different in two respects from the cooling of regular data centers and server rooms. Management must be carried out completely remotely. This means an even greater role for software than in other locations. Because so many new spaces are being added, strict management of minimum energy consumption is necessary. Arnoud Kerkhoven's presentation fits in well with this.

Costs and quality

When it comes to cooling and energy, costs play a major role. Innovations in technology and the use of software are important here. It can also help to critically examine the existing components. In this track, Raf Bruggeman will explain how cooling costs can be saved by revising the battery sizing without reducing availability or quality.

Ultimately, the customer will mainly want to know whether he is getting the quality for which he pays. He will be less interested in the details, the SLA will generally be decisive. Marius de Klerk and Niek van der Pas will explain why availability and efficiency are so decisive for every SLA.
