Smart Buildings and the role of Building Automation

The evolution from automated to smart and self-adaptive buildings is currently in full swing. Smart buildings create environments that can interact with their occupants, learn from them and ultimately adapt to their changing needs. Paul Persy from PCS Gebouw Automatisering will discuss the technological backbone in his presentation. What requirements should it meet to connect your smart building infrastructure and increase resilience and safety? Wim Hogenhout van Chess discusses the objectives, features and functions of a Smart Building.

Chess's presentation provides answers to basic questions: What can and can you expect from a Smart Building? How does Smart Building technology improve the performance of buildings, organizations and users?

The coherence of network infrastructure, operating systems and applications for building management and end users is the key for the successful realization of a Smart Building. With the right choices you can create a building today that grows with tomorrow. The possible objectives are discussed from different perspectives and stakeholders (owner, manager, user) and translated into functional applications and system features.

Both speakers tackle this topic from an ecosystem perspective and with open and scalable systems. Various parties in the built environment have qualities that complement each other to provide solutions for current needs. There is therefore (also) a working group within the Building Automation sector Technological Innovation active. Collaborate with parties in the chain to enable ecosystems and scalable systems. Joining forces through an association is still very topical.
