Review of LED Lighting & Technology 2019
The event was given a new name and a broader scope. This was clearly noticeable during the LED Lighting & Technology conference in the Van der Valk hotel in Eindhoven, due to the interesting lectures. Among others, a 'light professor' and an entrepreneur in 'healthy' light were present.
Maarten Voorhuis van Sparckel spoke during his plenary lecture about how LED technology can be used to improve people's health. For example, with the right lighting at the right time, concentration can be improved and sleep quality can be improved. Voorhuis spoke to FHI before about his pioneering work in this field.
During LED Lighting & Technology, visitors could also participate in three tracks: LED technology, communication protocols and standards, and application areas/applications of LED lighting. Among other things, the interface material for an LED driver was discussed, as well as new insights into LED lighting for horticulture.
Light professor
The second plenary session was provided by none other than Prof. Ir. Wout van Bommel, also known as the 'lighting professor'. Under the collective term 'human centric lighting', Van Bommel provided insight into the long-term effects of light on humans. Just like the previous edition of LED Lighting & Technology, Van Bommel attracted many visitors.
Navid Delassaee from the Citizen company gave, in collaboration with Elincom electronics, a light demonstration. During this practical demonstration, regular COB LEDs were compared to COB LEDs. The latter type has a high color saturation. Jurgen van der Kolk from Helvar showed in his presentation the advantages of mesh networks by means of the Low Energy Mesh standard.
The closing speaker was Mark Vermeulen from Osram. He spoke about the advantages and disadvantages of direct current and its application, and the arrival of 60VDC in the automotive industry, among other things. During the interaction with the audience at the end of his presentation, the image emerged that the visitors believe that DC is on the rise, but that the transition to direct current will take a long time. According to the experts, the most important drivers in this are (lighting) architects, LED manufacturers, but also end users.
After the conference it was of course time for the networking reception. There it was heard among many visitors and exhibitors that the new format was a success.
