Electronics & Applications' trade show projects are impossible without enthusiastic exhibitors. Thanks in part to EVAbits, we're organizing the gadget trade show again this year. Circuit Cruiser and the Best Solderer in the Benelux.

Arjen Bogerman, co-owner of EVAbits, speaks with conviction about his company. Eight years ago, three young electronics engineers took the plunge into entrepreneurship. Now he looks back and forward with pride. "We started as a contract engineering company, but we've since transitioned to product development," says Arjen. "Our specialty is test systems. We built our own test cabinet, the EVAjig, which we use to test products for our clients."

EVAbits' test cabinets are modular. They build generic test cabinets designed for small to medium-sized production runs. Only the interior of the cabinet, the cassette, is specifically designed for a final product. This makes EVAbits an affordable alternative in a market currently dominated by a few large players, where testing and licensing are often expensive.

Live demonstrations at Electronics & Applications

At Electronics & Applications, the Benelux industrial electronics trade fair, the EVAbits test system will be on display. Arjen is also actively involved in two trade fair projects: the trade fair gadget Circuit Cruiser and Best Solderer in the Benelux.

The Circuit Cruiser is a remote-controlled circuit board on wheels. EVAbits designed a special cassette for this project. Visitors collect the necessary parts from participating exhibitors and then assemble the car themselves. At the EVAbits booth (9A044), collectors of this trade show gadget can test their homemade Circuit Cruiser right away.

Best Solderer in the Benelux

EVAbits is also participating in the Best Solderer in the Benelux competition. Throughout the entire trade fair, from opening to closing, professional solders will compete for the title of "Best Solderer in the Benelux." A professional jury will select a winner each day. Despite the rise of automation, soldering technology remains the foundation of virtually every electronic product.

Arjen and his colleagues devised a challenging soldering task. "Watch out for the pitfall," he warns. He finished in 39 minutes, but his colleague – an experienced production solderer – completed the job in 28 minutes.

Participants have 45 minutes and are judged not only on functionality but also on neatness. Arjen shares three tips:

  • Start with the smallest component
  • Use a microscope
  • And use the IBOM

Finally

Arjen is looking forward to Electronics & Applications. He is very curious about the Circuit Cruiser and the performances of the participants in the Best Solderer of the Benelux. He wishes everyone lots of fun and may the best one win!
