The European Commission announced yesterday (25 March 2020) that it is working on a proposal to postpone the final transition to the MDR (Medical Device Regulation), scheduled for 26 May 2020, by one year.

The corona crisis is pushing the medical industry and governments to the limit. In order to relieve the pressure on national authorities and industry and allow them to fully focus on urgent priorities that have arisen due to the corona crisis, the European and National industry associations have previously called for a postponement of the transition to the MDR.

The Commission will submit the proposal to Parliament and the Council in early April, urgently requesting that the proposed postponement be approved before the date of 26 May 2020.
