Energy provider Vattenfall is going to build a hybrid energy park in Goeree Overflakkee in South Holland. The park integrates wind turbines, solar panels and batteries into one.

Vattenfall wants to invest 35 million euros in the project that will be located near the Haringvliet. The six wind turbines were already planned for this location and construction has already started. Solar panels will be placed on a surface of 30 hectares.

The expected capacity of Energiepark Haringvliet Zuid is around 54 megawatts. Approximately 24 megawatts are generated from wind energy and 30 megawatts from solar energy. For the storage of energy, the company places batteries in twelve sea containers. The batteries come from BMW and have a capacity of 12 MWh.

By using the same infrastructure for generation, storage and a grid connection, the park can be operated more economically thanks to these synergy effects. According to the energy supplier, wind and solar energy complement each other well and the project falls within the ambition to become fossil-free within a generation. The energy park should be able to supply sustainable energy to 27,500 households from September 2020.
