Lots of enthusiasm for Man-made noise meeting at the Telecom Agency
On Wednesday 9 October, the Dutch EMC-ESD association was a guest at Agentschap Telecom in Amersfoort. The 30 attendees were updated this afternoon on the phenomenon of man-made noise. Due to the increase in complex electronic and computer equipment, the electromagnetic environment has changed significantly and this can lead to interference/noise. The afternoon consisted of four lectures on this theme, a tour of the EMC lab and a look inside the measuring bus and was concluded with a networking reception.
In the opening presentation, Jos Kamer described what man-made noise is, what the guidelines are and what the role of the Telecom Agency is in enforcing this. Peter Zwamborn of VERON (Association for Experimental Radio Research in the Netherlands) addressed the subject of noise in the ether. In his presentation, he discussed, among other things, the measurement results of noise measurements performed by VERON and concluded with conclusions and recommendations to tackle the problem.
Michiel Brentjens of Astron described the 4 types of noise that occur in astronomy and how they are measured. Recent measurements were shown using a number of practical examples. In the last lecture of the afternoon, Mart Coenen of EMCMCC shared his concerns about the various quality marks, the EMC test methods, the number of products with EMC problems, import of products from abroad and the enforcement of the EMC guidelines. His presentation was concluded with a number of recommendations to improve this.
We would like to thank Agentschap Telecom for their hospitality and if you have any questions about this afternoon, please contact Marc Berkouwer.
