Do you want more control over your process and therefore a safer working environment?
Stopping or sealing is often making a mechanical seal of a pump that is used when pumping toxic, reactive (with oxygen and/or moisture) and volatile substances more tight. It is intended to make processes safer. In general, this is applied to larger centrifugal pumps that are often equipped with a double mechanical seal.
Locking units are required to lock or seal these seals. In certain cases, blocking or sealing must be done forcedly, actively with an additional pump, and/or under high pressure. This is done by actively pumping (circulating) barrier fluid.

Our solutions for blocking/sealing
Centrifugal pumps are equipped with a pump ring for the circulation of the barrier fluid. The main functions of blocking are sealing and cooling. When the pump comes to a standstill, circulation also stops, with the risk of high temperatures, resulting in possible damage to the seal or even leakage with all the consequences that entails.
By using gear pumps, the circulation of the barrier fluid continues, even when the main pump is at a standstill.
A special feature is that we have solutions, pumps with magnetic coupling, for barrier systems with system pressures up to 325 barg!
Suurmond offers gear pumps in cast iron, cast steel or stainless steel for this application, which, if desired, comply with API 676 and are suitable for the so-called API flushing plans (American Petroleum Institute). Furthermore, ATEX certification is simply possible.
In addition to gear pumps for circulation, Suurmond designs specific blocking units according to customer specifications!
