Hotmelt extrusion in Food and Pharma

Hot melt extrusion (HME) is an emerging technology in the pharmaceutical industry for the production of drugs in a continuous process, with proven robustness for numerous advanced drug delivery systems. A key advantage is the ability to produce a variety of formulations, such as solid dosage forms, that... biological availability of medicines to improve. HME is a solvent-free, continuous process. It is in fact a simplification of complex, multi-phase processes.

Micro pellets

Tablets and capsules are the most popular oral solid dosage form in the pharmaceutical industry today. Tablets and capsules with fine particles of active substance provide a significantly faster solution. These particles can be added in the form of micropellets.

Pellets are not powder or granules; they are characterized by a defined shape and a narrow particle size distribution. This enables a very wide range of applications in which active substances are integrated.

Through the hot melt/melt process, even the processing of poorly soluble carrier/active substance combinations is no longer a major problem in the pharmaceutical industry. Continuous production provides many advantages in production and in accelerating the development cycles for new medicines.

Hotmelt extrusie en micro pelletizing proces

STOMACH offers a wide range of products for hot melt extrusion for Food & Pharma. Depending on the type of process required, we have various solutions to meet customer requirements.

The MAAG systems all comply with regulations in the food and pharmaceutical industries.

Advantages of MAAG systems

  • Homogeneous, consistent particle/pellet sizes
  • Production of micro pellets ≥ 0.3 mm
  • Continuous production
  • Simplification of complex, multi-phase processes
  • No/less dust created than with conventional methods
  • Easy scale-up of the process
  • For pelletizing from an extruder or reactor vessel
